Álvaro Martín serves as a field-level reporter on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecasts, working with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan most weeks during the season. Since 2000, he has also provided reports for ESPN’s domestic Spanish-language Sunday Night Baseball productions.

In addition to serving as a reporter, he conducts interviews with both English- and Spanish-speaking players. He also appears as a reporter on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight.

Martín has also worked for ESPN International since 1991 and appeared on two special ESPN baseball telecasts in 1999 – Baltimore vs. the Cuban National Team from Havana during Spring Training and Colorado vs. San Diego from Monterrey, Mexico on Opening Day. He has handled Spanish play-by-play and analysis for ESPN’s service in Latin America, including the NBA and NBA Finals, six Super Bowls, several World Series and Stanley Cup Finals and the America’s Cup in 1992 and ‘95. He also called the PPG IndyCar World Series in English in 1993 for ESPN International. In 1998 and ’99, he handled play-by-play for New York Yankees and New York Mets games on Telemundo’s local affiliate.

Born November 21, 1962 in Puerto Rico, Martín received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1984 and received a master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School in 1988. He is a principal in the New York-based media consulting and production company SMartSports. Founded in 1993, the company assists leagues, teams, media and sports marketers adapt their properties to Spanish consumers. Clients have included the NFL, ABC’s Monday Night Football and World News Tonight, the New York Yankees, the New York Knicks, St. John’s (basketball) and the MLS.
