The New York Giants and Tiger Woods among the Night’s Big Winners


The Super Bowl Champion New York Giants added to their trophy collection, winning ESPYs in three categories: Best Game, Best Upset and Best Play, the latter for David Tyree’s epic leaping catch of an Eli Manning pass that kept the Giants’ game-winning drive alive.  Tiger Woods had a record night, winning his fifth Best Male Athlete ESPY (passing Lance Armstrong for most wins in the category), his fourth straight ESPY for Best Golfer, and the Best Championship Performance award for his incredible victory at the 2008 U.S. Open with a severely injured left leg.  Woods’ three wins builds his record to 21, more than anyone in ESPYs history.  Read more...

ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic

The eighth annual ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic, a Team ESPN event held at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms in Industry Hills, Calif., raised $1 million in net proceeds for The V Foundation for Cancer Research; the total was announced by George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports and Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks.  Read more...

Helio Castroneves (IndyCar racer, Dancing with the Stars winner), multi-platinum GRAMMY award-winning artist Fergie, Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Terrell Owens (Dallas Cowboys), Kiefer Sutherland (Mirrors, 24) and ESPN and ABC personalities Chris Berman, Robin Roberts and Stuart Scott have been added to the all-star list of presenters for The 2008 ESPYs co-presented by HUMMER and Under Armour, which will be televised Sunday, July 20, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN and in high definition on ESPN HD. And the Nominees Are...

On Tuesday, July 1, nominees for The 2008 ESPYs co-presented by HUMMER and Under Armour, and hosted by Justin Timberlake, will be announced at ESPYs.tv. The nominees will be discussed and debated throughout the day on a variety of ESPN’s media platforms with nominees expected to appear on ESPN Radio – and during The ESPY Nomination Show at 8 p.m. on ESPN.  For the fifth consecutive year, fans will determine the winners in 37 categories (excluding special awards) by voting online at www.espys.tv and, for the first time, via mobile phone at www.espn.mobi.  Last year, more than 12.5 million votes were tabulated. Arthur Ashe Courage Award

After winning gold and bronze medals at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games, Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood upon the victory stand, bowed their heads and raised their black-gloved fists toward the sky as the national anthem played – an action the two men said represented not only the American struggle for racial equality but the universal struggle for basic human rights - and the world has never forgotten.   Forty years later, Smith and Carlos will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at The 2008 ESPYs co-presented by HUMMER and Under Armour.  Read more...
