ARENA FOOTBALL: ANOTHER OUTLET FOR ESPN RADIO'S "MULTIMEDIA MIKES"

Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg, co-hosts of ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning (M-F 6-10 a.m. ET), have already gone beyond the bounds of radio by appearing in their show’s simulcasts, a prime-time TV special, a prime-time TV drama, hosting a primetime TV series, an online cartoon, a video game, and a weekly magazine page.

On March 4 the “MultiMedia Mikes” debuted in another format: in the play-by-play booth for the Arena Football League season opener in Dallas between the host Desperados and New York Dragons on ABC.

Mike & Mike, who have worked together for seven years, will serve as ESPN’s top AFL broadcast team, with Greenberg handling play-by-play and Golic, a former NFL player and longtime college and pro football analyst, providing analysis. Greenberg and Golic (who previously served as an ESPN AFL analyst from 1996-98) will be the featured team on ESPN’s 26-game schedule this season, including ArenaBowl XXI in New Orleans on July 29.

“Despite rumors to the contrary, Golic is not just doing this because he was promised the front spot in the pre-game buffet line,” Greenberg says. “Nor am I doing it just so my wife can meet Jon Bon Jovi (an AFL team owner). There are other reasons, and as soon as we figure out what they are we'll be happy to discuss them.”

ESPN Radio’s popular morning drive program Mike & Mike in the Morning, co-hosted by Mikes Golic and Greenberg, is heard on 310 affiliates nationwide, and simulcast on ESPN2.
