Lowell Galindo Named New ESPNU Signature Anchor
ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, named Lowell Galindo as its new signature anchor. Galindo will anchor ESPNU's studio programming from Charlotte, N.C., headquarters of ESPN Regional Television (ERT) which handles the primary production responsibilities for ESPNU. His assignments will include hosting stand-alone specials and studio shows such as SportsCenterU, ESPNU Inside The Polls, ESPNU Coaches Spotlight and ESPNU Recruiting Insider. In addition, Galindo’s responsibilities will include pre-game shows, halftimes and postgame hosting duties for many of ESPNU’s live events.
“It’s a dream come true,” Galindo said. “Any sportscaster when thinking of the pinnacle of sports, you think ESPN. To be selected as the new anchor for ESPNU is even more exciting because I am a college football fanatic. ESPNU is breaking new ground in college sports.”
“As the new face of our network, Lowell brings great energy, talent and a fresh perspective,” said Burke Magnus, ESPNU vice president and general manager. “His passion and solid on-air skills will certainly connect with college sports fans.”
Galindo has already been featured on ESPNU in early August for its college football media day coverage. He returned to the air this week as the host of ESPNU’s college football conference preview shows alongside analysts Todd McShay and Tom Luginbill. He will cover preview shows for the Big East (Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. ET), Big 12 (Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m.), Pac-10 (Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m.), SEC (Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m.) and the National Preview Show (Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m.).
Prior to joining ESPNU, Galindo worked as a sports reporter and producer for WTTG-TV (Washington, D.C.), WWSB-TV (Sarasota, Fla.) and KSNF-TV (Joplin, Mo.). He also served as an intern for ESPN in 2002.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Galindo was graduated from Emerson College in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
