Best known for his signature home run call “¡no… nono, nono, no…! ¡Dígale que no a esa pelota!”, Ernesto Jerez, a Emmy-award winning broadcast journalist, is the play-by-play commentator for ESPN Deportes’ Sunday Night Baseball telecasts, a position he has held since 1995. Jerez has called hundreds of games for ESPN, including every Major League Baseball All-Star Game since 1997, every World Series since 1998 and ESPN Deportes’ coverage of World Baseball Classic in 2006, 2009 and the upcoming tournament in March, 2013.
In addition to MLB duties, Jerez serves as the voice for the network’s telecast of winter baseball, the Caribbean Series and hosts the winter edition of the weekly baseball program Béisbol Esta Noche (Baseball Tonight). He is also the play-by-play commentator for NBA games and hosts Perfiles, a series of half-hour portraits that takes an in-depth look at the lives of Latin American athletes on-and-off the field.
Prior to joining ESPN, Jerez worked for several cable and broadcast entities including the Discovery Channel, WCVB-TV and WUNI-TV in Boston.
Jerez attended Pontificia Universidad Cátolica Madre in the Dominican Republic, graduating in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business. In 1995, he graduated from the Northeast Broadcast School, currently the Massachusetts School of Communications, in Boston.
