Matt Barrie, who joined ESPN in March, 2013, is an anchor for SportsCenter and other studio programs. In addition to anchoring regular editions from the studio, Barrie frequently hosts SportsCenter on the Road programs from various locations around the country, including college campuses on football season Saturday mornings.
When Barrie first came to ESPN, it was as a studio host for Highlight Express on ESPNEWS. In 2014, he started hosting College GameDay on ESPN Radio with Trevor Matich & Brad Edwards.
Prior to coming to ESPN, Barrie was an anchor/reporter at KXAS, NBC5 in Dallas (2008-2013) where he hosted weekend sportscasts, including Sunday’s Out of Bounds. He also anchored live coverage of the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks, and was recognized with the 2010 national and regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award, five Lonestar Emmy Awards, including Sports Reporter and Sportscast, and the “Salute to Excellence” NABJ Award.
Previously, Barrie was in Columbia, S.C. (2005-08) where he served as sports anchor/reporter for WLTX-TV, and co-hosted the Matt and Tim Show on 1400-AM “The Team,” the highest-rated radio show in the Columbia market. For WLTX he anchored Friday-Monday sportscasts, hosted the weekly Saturday Night Blitz and Gamecock Extra college football shows, and provided live coverage from the Independence Bowl (2005) and Liberty Bowl (2006).
Barrie began his career at WJFW-TV in Wausau, Wisc. (2001-02), where he was the station’s primary Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers reporter. He was also sports host/reporter at KSWO-TV in Lawton, Okla. (2003-05), where he provided live coverage from the 2003 and 2004 Big 12 championship and BCS National Championship games.
Barrie is a 2001 graduate from Arizona State University with a B.A. in broadcast Journalism form ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism.
