PRINT VERSIONFILED IN: Soccer

ESPN2 to Carry Two La Liga Matches in Spanish on Sunday and Wednesday

ESPN platforms – ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes – will carry 26 live matches beginning Saturday, April 28, through Wednesday, May 2, including the live presentation of Manchester City vs. Manchester United, the most-anticipated and potentially title-deciding matchup of the 2011-12 Barclays Premier League on Monday, April 30, at 2:30 p.m. ET (kick at 3 p.m.), on ESPN, ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes.  (Link to ESPN’s Manchester derby release.)

In addition, ESPN2 will present two live matches from Spain’s La Liga – Real Madrid vs. Sevilla on Sunday at 5:55 a.m., and Barcelona vs. Malaga on Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. – in Spanish.  Sunday’s La Liga telecast, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid hosting Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, will mark the second time an ESPN English-language network will present a live sporting event in Spanish.  The first time was on March 4, 2007, when a NASCAR Busch Series race was simulcast in English on ESPN2 and Spanish on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

Both La Liga matches will be simulcast on ESPN Deportes (Spanish) and available in English and Spanish on ESPN3.  Highlights:

  • ESPN networks will feature matches involving three of the four teams – Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid – which played in the exhilarating home and away semifinals of the 2011-2012 UEFA Champions League.
  • German Bundesliga:  Bayern Munich’s first match after its UEFA Champions League semifinal series win over favored Real Madrid will be on ESPN3 Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (vs. VfB Stuttgart)
  • La Liga:  ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes will carry six La Liga matches including Real Madrid’s first match after failing to advance to the finals of the UEFA Champions League on Sunday at 5:55 a.m.
  • Premier League:  Three Premier League matches beginning Saturday at 9:55 a.m. with Stoke City vs. Arsenal on ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes.
  • Serie A:  ESPN3 will carry 10 Serie A matches including two appearances by defending champion AC Milan – at Siena on Sunday at 8:55 a.m., and hosting Atalanta on Wednesday at 2:40 p.m.
