49ers Reunion on NFL Live: Montana, Rice and Young Back Together

On Monday, Aug. 27, four-time San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Montana will visit ESPN as part of EA Sports Madden13 NFL Legends Week. That day on NFL Live (4 p.m. ET), Montana will reunite with two of his former 49ers teammates, ESPN analysts Jerry Rice and Steve Young. Rice will be in-studio with Montana and host Trey Wingo, while Young will appear via satellite from California. The trio won two Super Bowls together (XXIII and XXIV) with the 49ers, and the Montana-Rice duo combined for 55 touchdowns, tied for 10th most ever by a quarterback-receiver duo. (Rice caught 85 touchdowns from Young, which ranks second-most ever.)

Other Pro Football Hall of Famers who will be in Bristol next week for Legends Week to promote the release of Madden NFL 13 at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28 include: Barry Sanders (Tues.), Warren Moon (Wed.), Lawrence Taylor (Thurs.) and 2012 inductee Curtis Martin (Fri.).

SportsCenter Special: Bill Parcells’ NFL Preview – Tuesday, Aug. 28 (10 p.m., ESPN)

Two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Parcells and NFL Live’s Trey Wingo will host SportsCenter Special: Bill Parcells’ NFL Preview on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN.  The legendary coach, known for his adept talent evaluation and for rebuilding NFL franchises, will preview the 2012 NFL season in this one-hour program with in-depth team analysis, predictions, and he will breakdown all eight NFL divisions, including projected division winners and players to watch.  ESPN analyst and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who played for Parcells with the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, will also contribute. 

This NFL preview is the latest SportsCenter Special that Parcells has done for ESPN, following his critically acclaimed NFL Draft Confidential and Super Bowl Confidential shows the past two years.

NFL Features Planned for E:60’s Fall 2012 Season

ESPN’s award-winning news magazine, E:60, makes its Fall 2012 season premiere Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. ET. The first episode of the show’s sixth season of long-form storytelling and enterprise reporting will include a Lisa Salters feature on Detroit Lions All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson, one of many NFL player profiles planned for E:60‘s fall line-up. ESPN The Magazine: Lions’ Calvin Johnson on Cover of 2012 NFL Preview

Detroit Lions All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson appears on the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s 2012 NFL Preview issue (on newsstands Friday, Aug. 24). Top stories include features on the Lions’ Johnson (“Just Try Not to Watch” by Elizabeth Merrill; behind-the-scenes video), the Broncos’ Peyton Manning (“Help Me Help You” by Ryan McGee), Vikings’ rookie lineman Matt Kalil (“Eat, Play, Live?” by Kevin Van Valkenburg) and Browns linebacker Scott Fujita (“Neither Saint Nor Sinner” by David Fleming). “NFL Confidential” also polls 48 NFL players for tough answers on sensitive subjects. Football at a Crossroads: ESPN’s Week-long Multi-platform Series

Beginning Friday, Aug. 24, ESPN will present Football at a Crossroads, a week-long, cross-platform series examining the health issues surrounding the sport of football at all levels – from youth football, high school and college football, through semi-pro and the professional ranks. The series will be featured across ESPN’s Outside the Lines and SportsCenter, ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine.   

Football at a Crossroads on Sunday’s Outside the Lines (Aug. 26, 9 a.m. on ESPN) will include the results of a commissioned poll that asked fans about football and safety.  Football at a Crossroads release.

MNF Conference Call with Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden and Lisa Salters – Thursday, Aug. 30 (11 a.m. ET)

ESPN’s Monday Night Football commentator team of Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden and sideline reporter Lisa Salters will be available for a media conference call Thursday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. ET. MNF producer Jay Rothman will also be available for questions. The new MNF trio will open the regular-season on Sept. 10 with the Cincinnati Bengals-Baltimore Ravens game from M&T Bank Stadium (7 p.m.).
