Fields Announced for ESPN Regional Television Early-Season Men’s Basketball Tournaments

Teams Commit to Charleston Classic, DIRECTV Classic, Old Spice Classic, Puerto Rico Tip-Off and Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic

The tournament fields for five early-season tournaments – Charleston Classic, DIRECTV Classic, Old Spice Classic, Puerto Rico Tip-Off and Diamond Head Classic – to be held around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in destination cities have been announced. All five tournaments are owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN.

All five tournaments feature a bracket-format with 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship game on the final day of competition.

Additional teams, final brackets and television will be announced at a later date.

Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant – Charleston, S.C.
Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 21, 22 & 24

  • Six of the eight-team field are confirmed – UAB, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, New Mexico and Temple.
  • The three-day event will be played at the TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.

Puerto Rico Classic – Puerto Rico
Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 21, 22 & 24

  • All eight teams have been slated to compete – Auburn, Charlotte, Florida State, Georgetown, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Michigan and VCU.

DIRECTV Classic – Anaheim, Calif.
Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 28, 29 & Dec. 1

  • Seven of the eight-team field are committed – Arizona State, College of Charleston, Creighton, George Washington, Marquette, Miami and San Diego State.

Old Spice Classic – Orlando, Fla.
Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 28, 29 & Dec. 1

  • The eight-team field are confirmed – Butler, LSU, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Saint Joseph’s, Siena and Washington State.
  • The three-day early-season tournament is played at the HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla.

Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic – Honolulu, Hawaii

  • George Mason, Hawaii, Iowa State, Saint Mary’s, Oregon State and South Carolina – six of the eight teams have been confirmed.
