Longhorn Network Debuts New Shows for 2014 ‘Strong’ Football Season; Longhorn legend Vince Young Joins Texas GameDay

Longhorn Network, ESPN’s 24-hour network devoted to the University of Texas, will air week-long football show season premieres surrounding the debut of Coach Charlie Strong at the Longhorns’ football opener. Shows making their premiere include Game Plan with Charlie Strong, Longhorn Extra: Upon Further Review, Longhorn Weekly with Charlie Strong, Texas All Access and Rewind with Charlie Strong. LHN will also return the network’s flagship pre-game show Texas GameDay with the addition of Longhorn legend and BCS National Champion Vince Young as a weekly analyst.

LHN will close out the week by exclusively airing the first game of the Longhorn football season when Texas meets North Texas on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. CT in Austin, Texas.  This will be the fourth straight year LHN has aired the opening matchup, and it will be the ninth football game to air live on the network. Longhorn Network’s Kevin Dunn and former Texas football Captain and DB Ahmad Brooks will call the game action.

  • Longhorn Extra: Upon Further Review - host Kevin Dunn, analysts David Thomas and Dan Neil give fans a different look back at Saturday’s game, complete with “Next Level” statistical analysis and X/O breakdowns for the serious football enthusiast
  • Rewind with Charlie Strong- Lowell Galindo and Coach Strong spend an hour breaking down the game and the decisions that went into it

Texas GameDay

The network’s flagship pre-game show, Texas GameDay, returns with insights, analysis and a set of familiar faces starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 live from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This season host Lowell Galindo, analysts Brooks and Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams will be joined by Young, former NFL Pro Bowler and quarterback of Texas’ 2005 national championship team. The set will offer live reaction pre-game, at halftime and also post-game analysis and interviews immediately following the game on Texas GameDay Final powered by Chevy Silverado.

“Vince is one of the greatest and most beloved athletes in Texas history. Adding his experience and depth of football knowledge is a major coup for Texas GameDay and UT fans everywhere,” said Tom McCollum, Coordinating Producer, Longhorn Network. “We are thrilled to have another Longhorn legend on our team as we head into our fourth football season.”

Williams returns for his second full year on Texas GameDay. Adding to his GameDay duties, Williams will also join Longhorn Extra every Friday during football season.
