Louisville’s Lamar Jackson and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson Take Top Honors at The Home Depot College Football Awards

Deshaun Watson of Clemson and Lamar Jackson of Louisville each claimed top awards during The Home Depot College Football Awards hosted by Chris Fowler, and joined by Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Tom Rinaldi and Samantha Ponder on ESPN Thursday night live from the College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience in Atlanta.

Jackson, a sophomore from Pompano Beach, Fla., became the first Louisville player to win the Maxwell Award.  Watson, a junior from Gainesville, Ga., claimed the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award for the second straight year, joining BYU’s Ty Detmer, Florida’s Danny Wuerffel and Oklahoma’s Jason White as the only two-time winners of the award.  Each of the three previous winners also won the Heisman Trophy one of those seasons.

Jonathan Allen won the Chuck Bednarik Award for the college defensive player of the year; Dede Westbrook won the Biletnikoff Award for the outstanding receiver; Zane Gonzalez claimed the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award; Mitch Wishnowsky won the Ray Guy Award for college punter of the year; Cam Robinson won the Outland Trophy for the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman; Adoree’ Jackson won the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s best defensive back; and D’Onta Foreman claimed the Doak Walker Award.
