This week’s women’s college basketball schedule features 14 ranked teams, including No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Mississippi State, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 8 Texas, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 13 Duke, No. 15 NC State, No. 21 Syracuse, No. 22 USF, No. 23 Texas A&M and No. 25 Drake.

Sunday’s slate will include five Play4Kay games on ESPN2 and ESPNU, honoring late NC State head coach Kay Yow and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The annual event, in its 11th year, will raise awareness and funds to support women’s cancer research initiatives. Together with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund provides several research grants across the country each year. Big Monday on ESPN2 is also part of the initiative, tipping off at 7 p.m. with No. 2 Maryland facing No.12 Ohio State., followed by No. 4 Baylor at No. 8 Texas.

This week’s content will include:

  • Mid-major rankings (Graham Hays)
  • The Wolfpack are having one of their best seasons in recent memory, moving to No. 15 in the rankings with some stellar wins on their resume already. Mechelle Voepel looks at the 10-year anniversary of NC State’s “magical” 2006-07 season, and the refurbished Reynolds Coliseum (Mechelle Voepel)
  • “Yowisms” – they’re well-known and oft-repeated phrases that Kay Yow said time and again to her players, whether they were celebrating a victory, looking for guidance or facing adversary. All these years later, all of them – whether from those who coached alongside her or played for her – still draw inspiration from these phrases in their daily lives; interviews of Stephanie Glance and Marquetta Dickens. (Melanie Jackson)
  • Appalachian State coach Angel Elderkin watched cancer take her mom’s life after a seven-year fight. Then Elderkin received her own cancer diagnosis in May, waking up from a procedure to remove a cyst on her ovaries to hear her doctor say, “you have cancer.” We focus on how Sylvia Hatchell – who had never met Elderkin but is a cancer survivor herself – helped the Appalachian State coach get into Lineberger for treatment. (Sean Morrison)
