ESPN today announced an update to its Monday Night Baseball presented by USAA schedule for May 1: the Boston Red Sox, expected to be led by red-hot starting pitcher Chris Sale, will host the Baltimore Orioles and slugger Mark Trumbo at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The telecast will be subject to local blackout restrictions in both the Boston and Baltimore markets. This telecast replaces the previously selected Cleveland Indians-Detroit Tigers matchup.
Today, New ESPN MLB analysts David Ross and Mark Teixeira discussed the 2017 MLB season, as well as their new MLB studio analyst roles at ESPN. Both Ross and Teixeira are former World Series Champions who retired after the 2016 season.
The 2017 MLB regular season begins on ESPN with seven games in two days across Sunday, April 2 and Monday, April 3. The seven-game slate is highlighted by an April 2 Opening Night telecast between the defending World Series Champion Chicago Cubs and their rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, at Busch Stadium (8:30 p.m. ET).
Continuing an upward ratings trend for baseball on ESPN Deportes, the network wrapped up its exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the 2017 World Baseball Classic with the championship game featuring the United States vs Puerto Rico Wednesday, March 22, delivering top ratings. The final marked the largest audience for a baseball game on Spanish-language television and viewing for the overall tournament on ESPN Deportes finished up 67 percent from 2013.
Five-time NBA Champion Kobe Bryant will take over ABC’s NBA Countdown pre-game show this Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. ET. Bryant, who will appear in studio, will debut Canvas City: Musecage – the second piece within his Canvas content series. Canvas City: Musecage is a 10-minute video presentation which will air in its entirety during the show and will be followed by reaction from Bryant, host Sage Steele and analyst Jalen Rose.
