Open Championship Gets 30 Minute Earlier Start on ESPN

ESPN’s telecasts of the first and second rounds of The Open Championship on Thursday and Friday, July 19-20, will now start at 4:30 a.m. ET, 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled, so viewers can see the complete rounds of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Woods tees off at 4:42 a.m. Thursday, while Mickelson starts his round at 4:31 a.m. Friday. ESPN has live, four-round coverage of 152nd renewal of golf’s oldest major from Royal Lytham & St Annes in Lancashire, England. DETAILS.


SportsCenter at The Open Championship Special Airs Wednesday

SportsCenter will air a one-hour preview of The Open Championship from Royal Lytham & St Annes in Lancashire, England, on Wednesday, July 18, at 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Scott Van Pelt will host with analyst Andy North and reporter Tom Rinaldi. Regular editions of SportsCenter will have reports from The Open Championship beginning Monday.


ESPN and Improv Everywhere Promote Open Championship

For one evening in June, ESPN and creative event company Improv Everywhere transformed a mini-golf course at New York’s Pier 25 into an authentic Open Championship experience for unsuspecting guests. The surprise competition – captured on YouTube — included ESPN play-by-play coverage, caddies for each golfer, regulation flags in each hole, a crowd of cheering fans, post competition interviews and the presentation of the prestigious Claret Jug. In the suspenseful showdown, contestant Isaac won the competition and dedicated the win to his caddy. ESPN’s coverage of the Open Championship begins on July 19.

ESPN’s Mark Jones will interview President Barack Obama during halftime of tonight’s USA Basketball Men’s National Team game against Brazil on ESPN2 and ESPN3. Washington Nationals to Host New York Mets on Wednesday Night Baseball

Bryce Harper and the NL East-leading Washington Nationals will host David Wright and the New York Mets on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball on July 18, at 7 p.m. Dave O’Brien will provide commentary with analyst Nomar Garciaparra and reporter Pedro Gomez. The game will also be available on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.


 ESPN College Football Media Days Coverage Begins Tuesday on ESPNU, ESPN3

Beginning Tuesday, July 17, ESPNU will air more than 35 hours from six college football conference media days: SEC, ACC, Big 12, Pac-12, Big Ten and BIG EAST. Coverage begins with the SEC Media Day from Birmingham, Ala., including conference newcomers Missouri and Texas A&M. ESPN3 will simulcast each day’s coverage, as well as offering live, exclusive coverage from today’s Sun Belt Football Media Day, as well as the MAC and Southland Conference Football Media Day on July 24.

ESPNU College Football Media Days will air live press conferences with commissioners, coaches and players over the two-week span, in addition to live reporting. Exclusive interviews with SEC head coaches will also be featured July 24-25 from the Bristol, Conn., studios.

Chelsea FC, the 2012 European club champions, will kick off the 2012 ESPN Summer Soccer Series (nine matches over three weeks featuring legendary European and Major League Soccer clubs) on ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes visiting the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, July 18, at 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, MLS on ESPN returns with FIFA World Cup winner Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls taking on their Eastern Conference rivals, former U.S. soccer prodigy Freddy Adu and the Philadelphia Union.
