Wednesday’s Outside the Lines: WNBA Finals MVP and Two-Time Olympian Seeks Personal Goal
contact: dan.quinn@espn.com

Last year’s WNBA Finals MVP and two-time Olympian Seimone Augustus is not only seeking a second gold medal and another WNBA championship ring, she is also pursuing a more personal goal: to marry her long-time partner. Augustus is openly gay and has plans to wed next spring in Minneapolis – a state considering an amendment that would define marriage as a union only between opposite sex couples. Despite this potential wrinkle, Augustus says she will proceed with her plans. Michele Steele reports for Outside the Lines (Wednesday, 3 p.m. on ESPN). WNBA President Laurel Richie is a scheduled guest.

“I’m 28 years old and I still have yet to see a gay or lesbian couple walk down the street and be openly gay in the south, at least where I’m from (Baton Rouge). We’re still getting over black and white issues down south so to think that they’re ready to accept open gay and lesbian people would be a bit of stretch.” – Seimone Augustus
