College Football Analyst, SEC Network

Marcus Spears is a college football analyst on the SEC Network. He contributes in-depth expertise weekly on SEC Nation with Tim Tebow, alongside Paul Finebaum and host Laura Rutledge. In the fall of 2017, he joined Greg McElroy for a new, weekly hour of SEC football talk called Thinking Out Loud, debuting September 4 on SEC Network. Spears recently signed a contract extension in summer 2018, and has added regular appearances on Get Up!, SportsCenter and College Football Live to his repertoire. He and SEC Network anchor Peter Burns also team up for SEC This Morning on SEC Network every Monday from 7-10 a.m. ET.

Spears hails from Louisiana, and was a highly sought after two-sport high school athlete from Baton Rouge, recruited for both basketball and football. He played tight end, fullback and defensive end for LSU’s football team under Nick Saban from 2001-04. During his sophomore year he became a full-time defensive player and his contributions to the team helped lead the Tigers to two SEC Championships titles (2001, 2003) and a BCS National Championships (2004) win.

Spears was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and played defensive end in the league for eight years. He retired from the NFL in 2014. He joined ESPN in April 2014, shortly after his retirement from the NFL.
