A Hot January for ESPN

  • Leads Cable in Total Day for Key Male, Adult Demos
  • Leads TV in Prime among M18-34

In January, ESPN’s lineup of premier live sports events propelled the network to the top spot among full-time cable networks among the key male and adult demos:  18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.  In addition, ESPN led all networks – broadcast or cable – in prime time among men 18-34.  (Source:  Nielsen, 1/1-1/28/18, M-Su 6a-6a or Cable Prime–Strict Daypart, Includes DTVR, Live+Same Day.)

The network’s top-shelf offerings in January started with the College Football Playoff Semifinals on January 1 (the second-most-watched day in ESPN history) and continued with an NFL Wildcard Playoff Game, the College Football Playoff National Championship (the second-most-watched telecast in cable television history), the NFL Pro Bowl Game, the Australian Open, plus top schedules of NBA and men’s and women’s college basketball.

For the month, ESPN averaged 432,000 impressions among  Men 18-34 in prime time.  That topped all other television networks, followed by FOX with 401,000 and CBS with 307,000.
